The Big Art Bus carries that spirit into areas that otherwise have limited access to creative spaces, a mobile studio that doesn't wait to be accessed, but brings resources directly to the people.
Free access, no barriers, space to work and space to play, art for the community.
Model
The Big Art Bus runs on a social enterprise, not-for-profit model: paid work makes free art possible. By bringing the bus, plus typographic and print-focused creative workshops, into festivals, community events, and private hire spaces, the project generates the income needed to provide a service to communities lacking creative spaces.
Using this model, the bus will be majoritally dedicated as a free access art space - traveling into neighborhoods and opening its doors to anyone who wants to take part.
The bus project aims to provide full day access at alternative spots in different communities on set, reoccuring days of the week. In this way, the project will provde a dedicated creative space to work or play for members of the public, mentoring and advice from creative practioners who facillitate the project and a library service of art supplies, which can be borrowed and used at home, and returned to the project the following week.
Make it happen
As it stands, The Big Art Bus is an entirely aspirational project from a recently graduated graphic designer.
To make this happen, I need to contact as many like minded and interested individuals as possible:
Are you a local artist or creative?
Would you be interested in facillitating workshops or working with the project?
Are you a community organiser?
Do you have a community in mind that would benefit from the project?
Have you worked with similar projects and might have some advice or guidance?
Are you a local council member?
Do you have information about grants that can be accessed or advice about permissions or safeguarding?
Are you an events organiser?
Can you help facilitate paid work at private events?
Do you have organisational and planning advice or suggestions for getting the word out there?
If you have any information or snippets of goodness you can offer, please get in touch:
